Last Successor of Ottoman Dynasty Buried Yesterday

Osman Ertugrul Osman, the last member of the Ottoman dynasty who was born at the Ottoman Palace, was buried on Saturday, September 26 in Istanbul. Shahzadeh Osman passed away on Wednesday, September 23 in Istanbul.

Successors of the Ottoman family have been living in exile in the United States since 1924. The last of the Ottomans, Shahzadeh Osman, was only given Turkish citizenship in 2004 after living in exile for 67 years.

Osman Ertugrul Osman was the grandson of Abdulhamit II and the son of Shahzadeh Burhaneddin Efendi. He was born in the Yildiz Palace in Istanbul in 1912 and was sent to exile with his family in 1924.

Shahzadeh Osman first came to Turkey in 1991 after receiving an amnesty through the Ottoman family. Shahzadeh Osman was the last family member of the Ottomans who was born in one of the Ottoman Palaces before the 1924 exile. Shahzadeh was buried in Mahmut II Mausoleum where his grandfather was buried and had a funeral attended by around 10.000 people.
