Ergeç meets De Mistura in Baghdad

During his presence in the capital Baghdad the Iraqi Turkmen front leader and the member of the Iraqi House Representatives, Dr. Saadettin Ergech has met with the senior Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq (Staffan de Mistura).


During the meeting which was also attended by senior Baghdad official of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, Aydin Aksu, ongoing preparations for holding elections of provincial councils in Kirkuk and Turkmen areas were discussed.


In Dr Ergech's agenda to De Mistura were issues of unresolved question of ownership and the city of Kirkuk and the notorious Article 140 from the Constitution, which lost the power of legitimacy by the end of 2007 the deadline.


In a private interview with Turkmen Eli TV in Baghdad Dr. Ergech said that this meeting came according to an invitation from United Nations bureau in Iraq and that focuses on issues that concern the Turkmen people, especially the issue of Kirkuk city and upcoming local elections .


Ergech also transferred to UN that the Turkmens will not back off their just demands and their rights in all the regions of Kirkuk and Turkmen Eli, and that Article 140 has lost its legitimacy constitutionally after the end of the ceiling set time for its application, pointing out that reliance on the results of the census in 1957 is the basic formula to be followed in determining the fate of Kirkuk .
