The UN envoy in Iraq, Martin Kobler arrived on Tuesday 22 jan 2013 in Kirkuk and met with its governor to discuss the issue of local elections and the political and security situation.
The source, who asked not to be named told Turkmenaspect, that "the UN envoy arrived this morning to Kirkuk and met with its governor , Najim al-Dien Karim and Hassan Turan" explaining that "the meeting focused on a number of topics and main axes including local elections file as well as discussing the overall political and security situation. "
The source noted that "Kobler will meet during the visit with the representatives of the main components in Kirkuk in its local council as with discussions will be held to achieve appropriate mechanisms to resolve problems suffered by the province."
Kirkuk province, 250 km north of Baghdad is one of the disputed areas that is witnessing almost continuous violence targeting the security services, state officials and civilians.
